House That Built Me

On the recent show, The Voice, contestant Dia Frampton sang this song with country star, Miranda Lambert.  I had heard the song on the radio maybe twice & I thought it was a good song but hearing them sing it on this show made me really like it.  Such a great duet & I have it on Tivo & I've watched it like 10 times.

These song lyrics really hit home for me about my childhood home & this song totally makes me cry.  My favorite childhood dog really is buried in the backyard of that house.  I've thought about going to the house & knocking on the door & asking if I could come in & look around, but these days, people would think I was a crazy person to do that.  Well, these song lyrics are perfect & totally sum up how I feel about my childhood home.  There's just something about the place where you grew up...ahhhh, the good ole days with no cares in the world.  If only you knew it was the good ole days while you were living them.

Later on I'll look back & think that I was living in the good ole days right now too.  Funny how that works.  Hello, lump in my throat.

House That Built Me
Sung by Miranda Lambert

I know they say you can't go home again,
I just had to come back one last time,
Ma'am I know you don't know me from Adam,
But these hand prints on the front steps are mine.

Up those stairs in that little back bedroom,
Is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar,
I bet you didn't know under that live oak,
My favorite dog is buried in the yard.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it,
This brokenness inside me might start healing,
Out here it's like I'm someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself,
If I could just come in I swear I'll leave,
Won't take nothin but a memory,
From the house that built me.

Mama cut out pictures of houses for years,
From Better Homes and Garden magazine,
Plans were drawn and concrete poured,
Nail by nail and board by board,
Daddy gave life to mama's dream.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it,
This brokenness inside me might start healing,
Out here it's like I'm someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself,
If I could just come in I swear I'll leave,
Won't take nothin but a memory,
From the house that built me.

You leave home you move on and you do the best you can,
I got lost in this whole world and forgot who I am.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it,
This brokenness inside me might start healing,
Out here it's like I'm someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself,
If I could walk around I swear I'll leave,
Won't take nothin but a memory,
From the house that built me.
